The views from the top of The Mayan Face include a large portion of the lake, and the towns of San Juan, San Pablo, San Marcos, Panajachel, and Santa Clara. You can see the three volcanoes around the lake (San Pedro, Atitlan, and Toliman) and -on a clear morning- watch the three volcanoes of Antigua (Agua, Fuego, and Acatenango).
We offer you these options:
Option 1: Watch the sunrise by hiking. Leave at 3:00 am from the hotel to the top of the “Indian nose”. The hike would take around 2 hours walking up and 1.5 walking down. However, the estimated time depends on your speed. On the top, you decide whether you want to return the same way or go down to Santa Clara for about 30 minutes and take a public bus back to San Juan.
Option 2: Watch the sunrise by going on a public bus. For this option, you leave the hotel at 3:45 am and take the bus to Santa Clara La Laguna. From there the hike is approximately 40 minutes to the top, once you get to the summit, you can choose to walk back to San Juan or take the bus (Q20 extra if you walk down).
Option 3: Watch the sunrise with a private taxi. This option is a round-trip tour where you will leave the hotel at 4:00 am with a private taxi to Santa Clara, hike approximately 40 minutes to the top, and return to the hotel the same way. The price for a private taxi for 1 person is Q220. For 2 or more people, the prices are the same as in options 1 and 2.
Option 4: In case you don’t want to see the sunrise, you can also make this tour between 5:00 am and 10:00 am. Just inform us about your preferred schedule.
